If you are interested in a Women’s Retreat with an outdoor twist, Appalachian Mountain Institute has a women’s retreat that incorporates yoga, meditation, climbing, and hiking in the tranquil and scenic Appalachian Mountains near Brevard and Asheville North Carolina.  Jenny Wallace of Appalachian Mountain Institute  and Katie Mattson of Momentum Coaching will be guiding a women’s weekend infused with experiences of both adventurous energy and calm spirit. Bring a journal and be ready for some nurturing through meditation, yoga, nature, healthy meals and expansive conversation. But don’t forget to come prepared with a sense of adventure as we’ll be exploring the topics of fear and courage while hitting the climbing ropes!

Food

You will find the meals delicious and satisfying.  Your guides live with nutrition in mind every day and so will prepare nothing but the healthiest meals for your breakfast, lunch and dinner using a variety of whole foods with vegan options. Enjoy a wonderful relaxing weekend with meals prepared by healthy women who would love to cook for you.

There will be a variety of activities to keep you engaged during the AMI Women’s Retreat.  We offer an opportunity for you to explore and redefine your self: what holds you back, what motivates you to move forward, what are your fears and desires, how to get your inner strength to come through you, and learn to be fully functional in your life! Explore all these possibilities with invigorating hikes along tranquil trails and by waterfalls.  Hiking is a great form of exercise that gently strengthens your body and at the same time, allowing you to experience nature.

Challenge of climbing

On the AMI Women’s Retreat you will challenge yourself with rock climbing to experience personal growth and experience the wonder of nature from a new and exciting perspective.  But don’t worry, there will be climbing for all levels.  Our focus is on your personal experience and the climbing will be tailored to each person’s needs and abilities.  All the climbing setups will be conducted by AMGA certified instructors to help and assist with your experience.

You’ll expand your mind through meditation and yoga.  Yoga and meditation have been used for transformational change, awareness and relaxation, and on this women’s retreat you will experience meditational practices designed to enhance your awareness and connect you to your surroundings.  Yoga will improve your balance, control and self awareness through a process of physical and mental exercises.  You’ll practice yoga in the wilderness to further expand the experience and your awareness.

May 2010 Retreat in a Wilderness Lodge

Enjoy the wilderness, spring flowers and activities of the Womens’ Retreat in the comfort of Lodge.  This retreat will be based out of a lodge on a wildlife sanctuary bordering the French Broad River.   Accommodations will include bed, bathroom and common area for activities and socializing.  Meals will be prepared and served in the kitchen by our staff.  There will be opportunity to enjoy the sauna in the evening, hiking or simply relaxing by the fire.  During the day, you will travel to the forest to engage in climbing, yoga and meditation in the beautiful setting of Pisgah Forest.  Evenings will be spent back at the lodge for more yoga, dinner, star gazing and relaxing time to unwind.

Dates: May 28th-30th   Reservations must be made prior to May 10th to ensure your space.

Cost:  $475 all inclusive: food, lodging and activities.

Katie Mattson

Katie Mattson is an adventure seeker – and climbing is her first passion in the outdoor world. Her enthusiasm for stretching her limits and energizing her moments led her to become a strategic momentum coach She helps individuals and small businesses define their goals and together they create a success plan to achieve them. Katie is a graduate of Coach University and a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF). She is also a Board Member in the ICF Charlotte Chapter as Head of Communications. She has received her ACC certification from the ICF, so you can be sure that the coaching you are receiving is a result of training and coaching experience.

Jenny Wallace

Jenny climbingJenny has been climbing and guiding in North Carolina for over 14 years.  Her passion for working with people and the outdoors has led her to pursue a teaching position, but also AMGA SPI certification, WFR and guiding.  Jenny’s spiritual side led her to pursue yoga and later, certification as a yoga instructor.  Additionally, she has developed a keen interest in healthy living and cooking.  She has led groups into a wilderness experience of all levels and various interests, taking a keen interest in each individual and ensuring a unique experience.
