Appalachian Teen Adventures use highly experience instructor who are familiar with working with teens in the outdoors.
Patrick Weaver
Patrick has BS from Indiana University in Secondary Science Education. This degree lead to 10 years of high school science instruction teaching physical science, and environmental science. While teaching, he also was the head track coach for 6 years and had the privilege of coaching over 240 athletes.
Patrick continued his education with MA from Prescott College in Risk Management in Adventure Education. His thesis was on judgment development and risk management for Adventure Education. This was an in depth look at accidents caused by human error and how to avoid them. He is an American Mountain Guides Association certified Rock Instructor. Patrick also holds Wilderness First Responder certification from WMA.
Patrick lives in Brevard with his family, his wife Christine and two children Ada and Benjamin. Ada is four and has been roped climbing for a year now and enjoys being outdoors with dad. In addition to climbing Patrick enjoys white water kayaking, fly fishing, mountain biking and camping throughout WNC with his family.
Larry Kollath
Larry has been working with teens for over a decade. He has worked in as a teacher in private schools in the North East and here in Asheville. In this role, Larry has also led many trips into the wilderness with teens. He has led kayaking trips, backpacking, and fly fishing trips.
An avid adventurer, Larry has explored the wilderness all over the United States and here in North Carolina. His skills run deep in camp craft and survival. Larry was a wilderness survival instructor for 19 years and taught many individuals how to live off the land.
Larry has a love of teaching. He has taught many people both in the classroom and out in the field. His role at Asheville School besides teacher is professional development coordinator. He has a deep desire to work with people and truly enjoys helping people. His camp craft skills are a marvel to see. Whether he is teaching fly fishing or fire building, everyone is captivated by Larry.
