What is Appalachian Teen Adventure?

Appalachian Teen Adventures are wilderness adventure programs for teens ages 13-17 who want to have fun lasting adventure, but are interested on learn a specific outdoor activities.  Programs run for one-week blocks from Saturday to Saturday, making it easy to fit into the busy summer schedule.   Each Camp has an activity focus, but teens will experience lots of variety from camping, swimming, to learning how cook over a fire.  All taught under the expert supervision of experienced outdoor educators.  Each camp is instructed with a low ratio to ensure a quality experience and promote individual learning.   The group size is limited for an adventure to ensure each individual has a quality experience.

Teens will have fun on either the Rock Climbing Adventure or Fly Fishing Adventure.  Each adventure is structured with the goal of having fun while developing outdoor skills along the way.  ATA’s low ratio and highly trained staff will be able to take your teen to the next level and have fun along the way.   Each camp will focus on one outdoor activity.  This allows individual to gain confidence for fun outdoor pursuits.  In addition teens will learn camp craft and have a great time exploring the Appalachian Mountains.

The Mission of Appalachian Teen Adventure is to promote personal growth, stewardship, community, and person skills of teens.  The ATA accomplishes this by creating challenges that are fun, progressive and at the level of the individual, while still creating fostering a cooperative group. Participants will have opportunities to develop climbing skills, camping skills and wilderness skills, engage in physical and mental challenges, and experience the wonders of being in nature.

Activities

ATA Camp InstructorTeens will have a fun time climbing rocks or fishing streams, but also there are plenty of other adventures.  The morning will be greeted with warm up activity, followed by breakfast.  Each day after breakfast the group will embark on a climbing or fly-fishing adventure.  Each day is different as the teen’s master new skills and takes on new and fun challenges.  After lunch teens will explore a swimming hole to cool off in.  Then we will head back to camp for an afternoon of fun, games or learning something new.

In the evenings, teens will enjoy a camp meal of good food.  Each teen is expected to pitch in and cook, clean and keep the camp organized.  After the sun goes down, we will all sit around the campfire and swap stories before bed.

ATA offers Rock climbing Teen Adventures and Fly Fishing Teen Adventures.  Teens will have fun and learn from outdoor professionals who enjoy teaching and working with youth.

Have a teenager that wants to climb or enjoys a challenge?  The ATA Rock Camp is a prefect experience for the teen wanting an experience in the wilderness that is unique, fun and challenging.  ATA instructors will guide your teen on an adventure that will develop skills and promote self confidence by using a progression of skill develop that leads to ever increasing challenges and greater rewards.

Fly Fishing

Fly-fishing is a great outdoor activity and fantastic way to expose someone to an outdoor adventure.  Clear streams, beautiful scenery and quality instructors create a lasting experience.  North Carolina has some of the best Trout fishing waters anywhere and ATA instructors are experienced at not only fly fishing but developing the skills of teens.  This camp will teach teens how to have fun fly fishing, tying flies and exploring NC trout streams.
