Ed and I few out of Charlotte Airport to Oakland CA in route to Yosemite; our mission was to climb Half Dome. Half Dome was a special climb for me. In may early years of climbing I read stories of Royal Robins and others making the history first ascent. Each time of spoke with someone who has climb it the reverence and pure joy of climbing the route would come through in every word. A friend and climbing partner Paul said, “Climb Half Dome, but do not do it too fast. This route must be enjoyed.” Traffic proved too congested to make good time from Oakland to the valley, so we arrive pretty last. 20 hours of travel and we were sore.
