Appalachian Safety Institute

Purpose

Appalachian Safety Institute is dedicated to improving the safety of the sport of climbing for all participants.  Appalachian Safety Institute recognizes that knowledge, skill and judgment are  essential elements for a safe climbing experience. Proper instruction is essential, however, knowledge of accidents and how they occur will lead to better judgment and safer climbing.   Appalachian Safety Institutes mission is to collect information regarding accidents and utilize this information to prevent further accidents by providing a reporting system and safety articles to inform the climbing community.

ASI will provide a method for reporting accidents for analysis that occur in WNC.  These accidents will be analyzed for cause(s) so that the climbing community can benefit from the knowledge.  ASI will also post articles on safety techniques and judgment to avoid accidents.
