New Hampshire
Ice climbing is a great winter outdoor adventure and New England has some great ice climbing. There are routes such as the Black Dike, Dracula, and Standard Route on cliffs Cathedrals to Frankenstein Cliff. Beginners and advanced climbers alike can enjoy the thrill of climbing ice in New Hampshire. If you have never tried guided ice climbing before, this is a great opportunity to give it a try.
Appalachian Mountain Institute climbing guides bring the experience of this area to life with several trips to the area. Beginners will learn ice climbing on lower angle slabs. Here AMI will teach the proper crampon techniques, how and when to use the ice axe, and what all this ice climbing gear does, with plenty of actual climbing. Advanced climbers may want to experience long routes and do some multipitch ice climbing or learn how to properly set an ice screw.
As an added bonus, the Ice Festival will be going on during the weekend. Enjoy climbing ice by day and films and slide shows at night. There will also be ice gear demos and options to try new stuff.
