Climbing Instructor Seminar

This seminar is designed to instruct climbing instructors on technical skills necessary for institutional rock climbing in a single pitch setting.  This Climbing Instructor training focuses on the technical skills need to operate top roping and rappelling sites for camps, colleges or organizations.  Participants will learn fundamental skills such as site selection, group management, climbing anchor setup, belaying, rescue skills, knots and rope management.  The skills focus on mastery and are taught from concept to application, so one learns the why and how behind the skills

Judgment

AMI recognizes that technical skills are not enough for a program to have effective risk management.  Risk management requires a blending of protocols with a dose of judgment behind the decision making process.  The Climbing Instructor Seminars also explores the process by which experts have been making decisions using heuristics or general principles, and creates a model for better understanding and utilization of the decision making process.  All decisions require judgment and this seminar provides you with the knowledge, skills, and a program to develop better judgment in your staff. Risk management is more than protocols; it is also about good judgment.

This course was designed and developed by Patrick Weaver an American Mountain Guides Certified Rock instructor and holds a MA in Risk Management from Prescott College.  Patrick Weaver also serves on the AMGA Accreditation Committee and works with other organizations on accreditation for AEE.  Course material represents current standard for operation in single pitch settings.
