Rock Climbing Rescue II

Rock climbing is a fun and exciting outdoor adventure that most anyone can enjoy. But are you prepared to deal with the unexpected? This course is designed to instruct you on rescue skills needed for multi-pitch climbing scenarios including lead climbing for traditional climbs or sport climbing.

The AMI Rock Rescue II Course

This one day course provides you with all the necessary skills needed to deal with the most common rescue situations while climbing in multi-pitch terrain. You will learn what climbing gear to carry and how to use your climbing gear in different ways. You will learn how to rescue the second and how to descend with an injured climber as well as techniques for a speedy and safe descent to avoid bad weather. You will also learn accident avoidance in common situations.

Course Format

This course is broken down into two parts: fundamental skills and rescue scenarios. In part one, the course will cover rescue knots, climbing equipment and essential skills.   In part two the course will go through several rescue scenarios. Each participant will run through the scenarios in order get hands-on experience.

  • How to escape the belay while belaying the second
  • Ascending to injured climber
  • Descending with injured second
  • Accident avoidance
  • Descending options
