lakeviewSean Cobourn is a person rich with experience and history.  His life has been focused around exploration and adventure.  Sean has been climbing for over 35 years and during this time he has been responsible for many first ascents in North Carolina.  Sean enjoys the excitement of exploring new areas and developing new routes with a passion.  Although Sean calls the Carolinas home, he has spent a great deal of time climbing in other locations.  He has climbed at Seneca WV, the Gunks, New Hampshire, Colorado, Exum Ridge on the Grand Teton in WY, Mount Rainer WA, Half Dome in CA and other locations out west.  He has also climbed in the Swiss and French Alps.  In North Carolina, Sean has put up many first ascents including: Rusty Redneck 5.10 at Rumbling Bald, Route of the Living Dead 5.11 at Laurel Knob, Oh! Mr. Friction 5.5 at Cedar Rock and many more.

In addition to pursuing climbing and its history, Sean has dedicated himself to helping others.  Sean has served as President of the Carolinas Climbing Coalition and contributed his services to gain access for climbers at Rumbling Bald and Laurel Knob, two of the finest climbing crags anywhere.  As an attorney, Sean was able to donate many hours of his expertise to making this a reality.  Sean’s generosity towards others is also indicative of his guiding.  He enjoys the chance to share the joy and technical skills he has gained over the years with others who want to experience the richness of climbing.

Sean in Red RocksSean is married to Trish Cobourn and they have twin daughters Emily Grace and Sarah Caroline.  He loves spending time with his family and is dedicated to their church.  He is also an avid kayaker and would rather sleep next to a campfire than spend a night on a couch when out climbing.  Sean received the Eagle Scout award in 1975 and is a graduate of Muskingum College and the University of Akron School of Law, Akron Ohio.
