Beckett Honicker

AMI Climbing Guide Beckett Honicker

BeckettBeckett comes from New England were he has spent several season guiding for IMCS in New Hampshire; however, he originally is from Tennessee.   Fortunately for Appalachian Mountain Institute he has decided to make Asheville, NC his home.  Beckett launched his passion for being in the outdoors by hiking the AT trail.  This led him down the path of rock climbing and he was hooked.  You can get a real sense of his love of the outdoor just by talking with him.  Climbing has been a substantial transformational experience for Beckett; this is evident by his ability to understand the needs of beginning climbers.  He is patient and still understands the needs of beginners.  And he always greets you with a smile and positive attitude.

Beckett’s climbing skills are exceptional.  He is a master of technical skills, including advance rescue techniques.  His climbing ability is exceptional too.  Beckett has many 5.13 ascents including: Ruby’s Café in Indian Creek and Weeping Jesus at Potrero Chico.  Additionally, Beckett has climbed the Nose of El Cap and the Regular Route on Half Dome in Yosemite.

AMGA rockBeckett is American Mountain Guides Association Certified Rock Instructor and Wilderness First Responder.  He has served as member of the Search and Rescue Team for Washington Valley and in Rifle CO.  Additionally, Beckett is owner and director of El Potrero Chico Climbing School in Mexico.  Beckett has been guiding professionally since 2005 and has 10 years climbing experience.

Beckett will be guiding and instructing climbing courses and lessons for AMI; including anchors, traditional leading, and self rescue.  He will be living in Asheville,  enjoying the atmosphere of a larger town.   Beckett also enjoys camping, hiking and listening to music.  Beckett is an excellent musician and also enjoys a bit of  juggling.

Testimonial

Our experience with AMI couldn’t have been better! It was the perfect balance between my teen-ager’s enthusiasm for the sport, and our desire as his parent’s to have his enthusiasm tempered with the importance of safe practices, and learning from the best. Thanks Beckett & AMI for a great experience!
