Our Climbing Guides
AMI climbing guides
• AMGA certified
• Degrees in adventure education and risk management
• Extensive experience in both climbing and instruction
AMI climbing guides are highly experienced climbers, with over 100 years of climbing experience between the guides of AMI. This experience is varied and goes well beyond climbing around Asheville and Brevard, North Carolina. Many of the guides have climbed extensively out west, even overseas. This experience is not limited to rock climbing, but also includes ice climbing and alpine. Beyond the climbing experience, AMI guides are highly experienced instructors. Patrick Weaver and Ed Maggart have been professional instructors for most of their professional careers and have MA degrees in Adventure Education. Patrick Boland has degrees in Outdoor Management with extensive experience instructing in institutional or Outward Bound experiences. This experience can work for you. Ultimately, climbing with rock climbing guides who have more experience and who are better instructors will lead you to a more satisfying experience.
The AMI climbing guides have a high degree of training. Patrick Weaver is an AMGA Certified Rock Instructor and has a Masters degree in Risk Management from Prescott College. The American Mountain Guides Association is the certifying organization in the United State and is a member of the international organization, the IFMGA. Obtaining certification is a process of training, practice, and examination. Additionally, each guide has had training from a variety of other programs and institutions, creating a well-rounded climbing guide: one who thinks and analyzes the situation. AMI also does extensive training with each guide to ensure both technical skills and instructional skills. Check out the bios to learn more and let our experience work for you.
